Gabriela Pitanga

Gabriela Pitanga is a contemporary fine artist who resides in London, United Kingdom. Born in 1992 in Salvador-Brazil, Pitanga holds a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Promotion and Imaging at the University for the Creative Arts and is currently on her final year of a Postgraduate Degree MFA Fine Art at the Kingston School of Art in London.

Her art is first and foremost a form of expression: it creates a special link between the internal and the external worlds. It allows her to get a grasp of powerful emotions, by moulding them into a physical form. In fact, the most important thing for Gabriela is to be able to release emotions.

Gabriela’s practice is principally cathartic as it reflects not only moments and emotions of her chronic illness but also her personal experiences with spirituality. It relieves a deep need, an almost primal impulse to seek for freedom outside the limitations of her body that is often unachievable. Her practice is also about having the power to give form to something she feels, to those deep personal issues that are often raw and disorganized.

The dynamic of her practice is often organic and natural as it is continuously made of daily or weekly series of paintings that captures the emotions of a particular day or period of her life.
